Diwali is celebrated when Lord Ram came back from the long time spent in jungle and people of Ayodhaya ignited diyas in the happiness of his return from the jungle after 14 years.India is a Multi-Religious country with various cultures and their special rituals adds glow to Indian heritage. With overall population of more than 1.18 billion, festival starts from welcoming the New Year, the rains and the full moon day. Behind each festival, there is different history present.

54th Annual GRAMMY Awards 2012


The British chanteuse, 23, was presented with the first award of the night for Best Pop Solo Performance, at Sunday’s GRAMMY Awards, where she was up against Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry and Pink. The six-time GRAMMY nominee was schedule to perform for the first time since undergoing throat surgery in November.

Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar-2011


Sahitya Akademi announced its first annual Yuva Puraskar in 16 languages February13,2012 ; the rest of the languages will be declared at a later date except Dogri and Sindhi. Six books of poetry, one of novel, five of short stories, one of biography, one of essay and two of plays have won the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar. The Awards were recommended by distinguished Jury members representing 24 Indian languages and approved by the Executive Board of the Sahitya Akademi which met today under the Chairmanship of Sri Sunil Gangopadhyay, President of the Sahitya Akademi.Those who have won the Awards for their collection of poetry include Uma Shankar Choudhary (Hindi), Veeranna Madiwalara (Kannada), Nisar Azam (Kashmiri), Aishwarya Patekar (Marathi), Gayatribala Panda (Odia) and Paramveer Singh (Punjabi). Those who have won the Awards for their collection of short stories include Binod Ghoshal (Bengali), Susmesh Chandroth (Malayalam), Dula Ram Saharan (Rajasthani), Jofa Gonsalves (Konkani) and Vempalli Gangadhar (Telugu). M. Thavasi (Tamil) is awarded for his novel. Those who have won the Awards for their plays are Anand Kumar Jha (Maithili) and Dhwanil Parekh (Gujarati). Vikram Sampath (English) won the award for Biography while Arindam Borkataki (Assamese) won for his book on essays.
According to the procedure, the Executive Board declared the Awards on the basis of unanimous selections made by the Jury or selection made on the basis of majority vote. The Award relates to books published by an author of the age of 35 and below as on 1st January of the year of the award.The Award in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper-plaque and a cheque of Rs.50,000/- will be presented to the awardees at a special function held at a later date.
